Damanhur, a federation of 30 communities in Italy is building a new civilisation for humanity

Damanhur is a federation of 30 communities of 20 to 30 people each that lives in North Italy, one hour from Turin. Since 40 years, nearly 600 individuals are trying to create a new society model locally. They are about a thousands people in the world.

This eco-community is one of the most ancient and most known in Europe. Labelled « ethical and ecological community » by the United Nation, Damanhur carry its political vision to the higher international authorities.

Another world with its own economical, political and ecological system

Well-known for its underground temple digged almost entirely by hand to represent their  philosophy in honor of humankind and nature, the community has a meditation school to learn to connect to one’s own environment and to oneself again through personal and collective growth methods.

By attending this school it is possible to be given the damanhurian nationality and thus be part of the community : that means to benefit from the social welfare system,  from the collaborative economy with an alternative local currency  and to participate to the group political life that democratically appoint a new ministry each year.

A new art that gives another significance to nature

Damanhur wishes to be identified the way we identify for instance the greek civilisation or the egyptian civilisation. The community works as a group to create unique pieces of craft.

Their very colorful houses represent in a realistic way humans in a florishing environment with really big plants and animals, thus putting nature at the forefront. This is a criticism of today’s society that often thinks about dominating nature, a phenomenon which is called specism.
