Although you will find only two articles on this site about ecovillages in France, there are many more of them! Time to focus on this country as in two years, the official conference of ecovillages will take place in France.
Are you French and have never heard of ecovillages? Rest assured, you are not alone! In fact, you form a part of 95% of the population.
Ecovillages are unfortunately often forgotten by the mass media, and politicians turn a blind eye to the innovative approaches used by those in Ecovillages, which do not fit into their idea of current capitalism.
More than 500 eco-communities are living in France
Yet in France, more than 500 eco-communities exist. Beyond Eotopia and Hameau des buis, documented at the time of the Ecovillage Europe Tour, the Colibris movement has been certified for 10 years and contains many eco-communities under the name of Oasis.
To raise its profile, Colibris has created its own magazine: Kaizen.
In order to live happy, should we live hidden?
Other eco-communities do not value themselves in the same way as Colibris and do not publicise their activities for fear of prejudgements and because of laws which favour the construction of shopping centres rather than eco-constructions. Yet these communities continue to exist all the same!
The map of utopias and the farms of the future
Other local networks are making eco-projects flourish everywhere. You will find, for example, the map of very real utopias in France on the site Fermes d’Avenir (farms of the future) for permaculture.
In order to help with the construction of eco-projects legally, the Reseau Français des ecovillages (French Ecovillage network) has been organising training sessions and meetings for 20 years.
The Global Ecovillage Network conference will take place in France in 2020: it is the time to come together!
During the summer of 2020, the entire world will have their eyes fixed on France and the GEN Ecovillage Conference.
It’s certainly a date to note in your calendar and will, without a doubt, be an unprecedented opportunity to take stock of the positive impacts of ecovillages, as well as to reinforce, unite and showcase all the excellent work done to date by eco-communities which are working towards a sustainable future for humanity.
