Rediscovery of the senses, instinctive raw nutrition and sungazing at La Belle Verte in Portugal

La Belle Verte is a self-sufficient eco-community in the Monchique Mountains in southern Portugal.

Inspired by the must-see ‘90s French film “La Belle Verte”, a group of French people decided to experiment swapping electrical appliances for fresh water and organic food: a way of life that is radically different from alienating city-life.

Whereas most Europeans and Americans entrench further in their habits that are heavily dependent on natural resources equivalent to that of seven planet Earths, the Belle Verte community attempts to find a way of living that is sustainable and durable.

Fresh food and sungazing

Guided by their daily instincts, the ten adults and children of la Belle Verte mainly live off fresh food. They live in artistic yet simple eco-buildings such as the Kerterres.

If at the beginning of their adventure the residents of la Belle Verte were looking for a more natural and wild way of living in the image of the movements of positive survivalism or of rainbow, to cut themselves off from the numerous needs created by society, and instead focus on what is essential, today they are looking to exploit the abundance of nature around them, all while respecting and following the principles of permaculture.

The community also practises sungazing: absorbing nourishing solar energy.

It helps to purify the body and its vital organs in order to fend off illnesses.
