Hameau des Buis and the Children’s Farm, in France : in favor of a free education within nature

Hameau des Buis is an eco-hamlet in Ardèche (France) which is part of the network of Pierre Rabhi’s association : Oasis de Colibris. Pierre Rabhi is an ecologist who is known for the message he delivered on organic agriculture.

In 2000, Pierre Rabhi’s daughter, Sophie Rabhi had the idea of creating this eco-hamlet with a school for children. The school welcomes more than 80 children from elementary school to highschool, 15 of them live in the hamlet.

After launching a major participatory construction project which rallied volunteers from all around the world, Hameau des Buis has now 20 big bioclimatic houses, yurts and huts on a 7 hectare land. Approximately 60 residents live there all year long.

Making cheese, organic gardens, therapies, there are numerous micro-companies that are acting locally in order to sustain the hamlet, which is mostly known for its Children’s Farm.
