Denmark: the country with the highest number of ecovillages per capita
Meeting with Camilla Nielsen Englyst, member of the Global Ecovillage Network Council and resident in Hallingelille, an ecovillage in Denmark, probably the only one in the world with a zebra!
Since 1993, Denmark has been a catalyst to impulse the ecovillage movement. It is the country with the highest number of ecovillages per capita.
A lot of initiatives are developed with the support of the national network Landsforening for Økosamfund.

Hallingelille, a committed eco-community
Hallingelille is an ecovillage of 50 members living few kilometers away from Copenhagen.
They live in separate family or friends houses. They also have a community common house where they host events, conferences, yoga classes and other activities.
Different generations are co-living there since 15 years.
Eco-building, permaculture, hosting refugees, European volunteering programs, reforestation projects and horse riding, renewable energies: the projects are not missing.
” As humans we have the power to destroy but also to regenerate. Ecovillages provide an alternative to mainstream society”
– Camilla Nielsen Englyst, a woman very active in the ecovillage movement
